April 10th Poem - K Street

K STREET

On K Street, in Washington,
a woman in a designer suit
adjusts a hat selected
from a table of many hats.
The street peddler holds
a mirror before her
as demonstrators chant
“Long Live Freedom!”
Some people, on their lunch hour,
pause to watch the marchers
while the woman considering
the purchase of a hat,
pinches the wool of another hat
with her perfectly manicured hand.
