April 15th Poem - Jewels on Her Hat

JEWELS ON HER HAT

Emeralds, rubies,
amethysts, all glass, the size
of quarters on her felt hat,
sprinkled like blessings.
Round and proud, the old
woman took the seat
reserved for seniors
and those with disabilities.
Brass buttons nestled
near the gems, humble
and unlike the large
jewels that announced
their peculiar grace.
